SLEEP

  • Chronic lack of sleep, which is common in modern societies, is contributing to obesity in children.

  • A short sleep duration is associated with weight gain, so if sleep deprevation becomes a habit, weight gain can further lead to obesity.

Sleep deprivation impacts activity and eating behaviors!

  • Staying up late is shown to reduce activity!

  • Since it's dark outside, the child will not be playing or exercising outside.

  • Child tends to staying inside and watch TV, or play video games.

  • Staying up late is shown to increase consumption of energy dense foods (popcorn, chips, candy, soda).

  • Forcing yourself to stay up longer increases your snacking becauseit helps keep you awake.
